I saw "Firaaq"; a movie by Nandita Das. It is set on the backdrop of "Godhra Kaand" in Gujarat and life afterwards. It has characters both Hindu and Muslim. It is not a provocative story, not a documentry, not an allegation. It is a search. A quest..

A quest for freedom.. for a space to "live". It is a story of a man named Sameer, his wife who want to escape their fear of being robbed and killed by a Hindu. a story of an auto driver whose house has been burnt to ashes, whose wife's best friend is a Hindu. A story about a Hindu housewife who finds a muslim boy, orpahned in the riot.

The story is about freedom of living. The vote counting season is on. However, which government promises that India would be free of riots and community wars and terrorism??? No one would. Indians were fools when British succeeded in ruling us, and we are fools even today, when we choose our own leaders and still fight..

I hope and wish that Nandita Das makes another movie on 26/11 Mumbai blasts, and the serial blasts of New Delhi. Let me see how one Indian would like to leave the country and run away or leave the city in trouble to a place safer.. I am waiting for the day, when probabaly a place as unknown as Ghatsila would also be bombed..

I wanted to write a review of the movie, however, it cannot be written. It is there in the minds and the souls of every Indian. It is "WE" the people of India who have to realise that, only "WE" can stop communalism and terrorism..

We should vote for and be in "FIRAAQ" for freedom from these..
